Enna Province – Sicily



The Province of Enna is located in the central part of Sicily; its capital is the city of Enna.

It has a population of 177,200, an area of  2,562 km², and it includes 20 comuni. The biggest cities of the province are Enna, Piazza Armerina, Nicosia, Leonforte, Barrafranca, Troina.

The province of Enna is full of interesting places and sites, which attract many tourists both from Italy and from abroad; the Province of Enna is indeed full of castles, cathedrals, churches and interesting archeological areas; it also includes 8 lakes, some nature reserves and forests. 

Villa Romana del Casale, in Piazza Armerina, is an huge ancient Roman “villa”, with some beautiful, well preserved Romman mosaics; this is the most important mosaic system in the Roman world of that time.

Morgantina is an ancient town that constitutes the most important archeological area in Central Sicily.

Castello di Lombardia, which is located in Enna, is the biggest castle of Sicily.

The Duomo of Enna, a noteworthy cathedral built in the 13th century.

The Cathedral of Piazza Armerina, characterized by a huge green dome.

Lake Pergusa, in Enna, which has a forest inside a wildlife reserve, where thousands of rare birds can be found.

The Autodromo di Pergusa is the most important racing circuit of Southern Italy.
